Where Are My Old Charts on Windows After Updating TimePassages?

Modified on Fri, Dec 12 at 10:21 AM

If you’ve just updated TimePassages on Windows and are wondering where your existing charts went, rest assured—your charts have not been deleted. TimePassages stores chart files in a Charts folder that is separate from the program itself, so updating the software does not remove or move your data.

Below are the easiest ways to find your TimePassages charts using File Explorer.

Method 1: Navigate Using File Explorer (Recommended)

  1. Open File Explorer

  2. Click Documents

  3. Open the TimePassages folder

  4. Open the Charts folder

Typical path:

Documents\TimePassages\Charts

This folder contains all charts you created or saved in TimePassages.

Method 2: Use the Address Bar

  1. Open File Explorer

  2. Click in the address bar at the top

  3. Paste or type the following and press Enter: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\TimePassages\Charts

  4. This jumps directly to the Charts folder for your Windows user account.

Method 3: Search for Your Chart Files

If you don’t see the Charts folder where expected:

  1. Open File Explorer

  2. Click in the search box (top-right)

  3. Type: .chw

  4. Make sure you’re searching This PC

  5. When results appear, right-click a chart file and choose Open file location

  6. This will show you exactly where your charts are stored.

Important Notes About Updates

  • Updating TimePassages does not erase or move chart files

  • Charts are stored separately from the program installation folder

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not affect the Charts folder unless it is manually deleted

If TimePassages opens but your charts aren’t listed, you can open them directly from within the app using File > Open Chart… and navigating to the Charts folder.

If You Still Can’t Find Your Charts

Common reasons include:

  • You’re logged into a different Windows user account

  • Charts were saved to a custom location

  • Files were moved manually

Searching for .chw files is the fastest way to locate them.
